Secure-p2p
You know what sucks about BitTorrent ? Well frankly, a lot of stuff, but it’s the best thing we have right now. The fine folks from The Pirate Bay are hard at work designing the next evolutionary step in P2P file sharing, and I for one, could not be happier! Say what you will about copyright, but The Pirate Bay folks have a vision that transcends the petty greed of any MP3 collector or Warez kiddie. I will gladly welcome a P2P system that eludes ISP filtering, speed limits and those sneaky sons of bitches at MediaSentry.
If any of you have any skills or knowledge worth contributing to the project, please jump in. It may not seem like much, but Secure-p2p will likely have a very real impact on the future of the Internet. We’re getting crushed by draconian, corporate-sponsored laws and Canadian dumbasses who were born on the wrong side of the US border (seriously). A little file-sharing program can be a powerful way to get people thinking about their freedoms, about what copyright really means and what laws should and shouldn’t be.

TheRecord.com - Business - Meet IvanAnywhere
Now this is cool! Ivan Bowman is a developer at some company in Waterloo, but he “telecommutes” - god I hate that word - he works from home, in Halifax. Hundreds of thousands of people do that already, but what’s neat about Ivan is he has a robot serving as his eyes and ears in the office, and it’s all remote-controlled over the internet. With a webcam, microphone and a touchscreen display, he can interact with his coworkers like a normal person would, with the added benefit that the slimy bitch… Read the rest of this entry »

What is the Art of Computer Maintenance ? It’s the difference between you and me. It’s what makes my PC fast, reliable and long lasting (graphics cards excepted) . - Defragmenting your hard disks
- Cleaning your PC of dust buildup
- Replacing system fans

How to Stop Warez Pirates: Ask Them Nicely | TorrentFreak
It’s all in the headline, folks! It’s an article about an independent software developer who simply asked a warez group to stop pirating his software. Not surprisingly, they immediately complied with his request. You see, the “real” pirates don’t do it for profit, they do it just for the hell of it, because there is a huge demand for warez and cracks and all that fun stuff. This guy wrote a really cool program to do light shows and real-time video effects (sounds familiar ?), so it’s just natural that someone noticed and decided to share this very neat thing with everyone… Read the rest of this entry »

Who is Bill ? At one point I was defined as “an angry coagulate of superior intellect and vast technoculture”.
Well yes, I am those things. More importantly, I’m a guy who has hardly ever cared for tradition. One time-honored tradition of the human race is to work until you’re very old and/or dead. Give 40 years to a company, build up a retirement fund, and hope to have enough life in you to enjoy it. I consider that mentality obsolete in the 21st century… Read the rest of this entry »

wcbstv.com - High-Tech Tattle-Tale Device Hits NYC Theaters
Regal Cinemas (some movie theater chain in the states) is now handing out these little remote-like devices to some of their patrons, which allows the person to page a staff member during the movie. The idea is that when some idiot ruins the show by talking throughout the film, or pointing his laser, or beating his wife, you page an “associate” and they come shut the idiot up… Read the rest of this entry »

Ax or Ask (Youtube)
All I can say is I wish this guy all the luck in the world. If I try to tell someone their “street talk” is illiterate filth, I get labeled as a racist, so thank you Mr Garrard McClendon for trying to educate the masses. I don’t care that he’s cheesy, and I don’t care that he wears the ugliest suit ever worn. It’s a shameful world… Read the rest of this entry »

I’m always bitching about bad programmers and how they should be murdered and raped (in that specific order), but I can certainly acknowledge talent when I see it. Today’s example of excellent software is the awesome µTorrent, possibly the best BitTorrent client for Windows… Read the rest of this entry »

On Friday, Brazil decided to bypass a pharmaceutical patent in order to get better AIDS treatment for its people. They were in negotiations with Merck, creator of the Efavirenz drug, but couldn’t reach an agreement on the price. Brazil’s president Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva (I call him Louie) made the decision to break the patent and put his citizens first… Read the rest of this entry »

Hey boys and girls, does anyone remember AllAdvantage ? The advertising plugin that paid you to surf the net ? Lots of people made good money with that program, which paid out over 120 million US dollars over in just a few short years. AllAdvantage closed down after the dot.com crash, as the chances of a successful IPO at that point were slim to none.
Well they’re back!… Read the rest of this entry »
